Got questions? Check to see if the answers are here. If not, make a thread in the Help board.
This will be updated as new questions arise.
What's this site about?
Pokémon Islands is a freeform roleplay that allows you to live as a member of one of three warring islands.
I just joined, and finished reading the rules and guides. Where do I start?
We recommend making a character biography, though it isn't necessary. It's just for you to develop your character. If you already created a bio or have a character in mind, go post on the Pokémon list to register them. Afterward, you can join one of the three main islands by replying to the respective thread on the island's board.
Is there any limit to how many Pokémon there can be per species?
Yep. We allow three characters per evolutionary chain. For example, if you wanted to have a Zigzagoon character, you could check the Pokémon list to check if the slots for that chain are full. When there are three Zigzagoon or Linoone characters, no more are allowed from that evolutionary chain. This prevents a massive overpopulation of Pokémon like Pikachu and the starters.
Can I be a Shiny or a Legendary Pokémon?
All legendaries are prohibited, as are pseudo-legendaries like Zorua and Victini. As a general rule of thumb, if you can't obtain it through regular gameplay in the main series, it's not allowed. Also, Shinies are reserved for the leaders of the islands.
Does it matter which island I choose?
Nope! You can pick any island, though we recommend one that your Pokémon will be somewhat compatible with. Life would be hard for an Oddish living at the foot of an active volcano! If your Pokémon is a type that isn't a perfect fit for any of the islands, it doesn't matter which you go with.
Am I allowed to visit any of the islands whenever I want?
No; your character must stay on its own island unless you get staff permission to post elsewhere. However, the character may visit Neutral Island at any point without having to ask.
How do I level up?
Levels may be gained during battles, or your character may gradually gain them through normal roleplaying.
Is there a restriction on what level I can be?
Yes; level is loosely tied to post rank. This is so that new characters aren't Level 100 behemoths. Keep in mind that you're not obligated to have a high level character even once you accumulate a lot of posts. Check the Ranks thread for more info.
Can I start as a final tier evolution?
No. If the Pokémon evolves by leveling up, then you must start off as the first form and work your way up. Sorry, no Level 5 Dragonites! For those that evolve via the use of evolution stones, you may evolve at Silver rank, or 50+ posts.
Which moves can I know?
You can choose from any of the moves that your character would be able to learn, given their current level. Search for your Pokémon on Bulbapedia for a list of moves. You may learn any TMs once you reach Gold rank, or 100+ posts.
